Manejo Quirúrgico de la Enfermedad de Graves

summary/abstract:• La tiroidectomía puede considerarse en pacientes con Enfermedad de Graves (EG) y compromiso ocular moderado o severo, o en fumadores con EG, debido al riesgo aumentado, en esta población, de agravamiento de la enfermedad ocular luego de recibir iodo radioactivo.
• Las mujeres con EG que estén embarazadas o amamantando, o que tengan niños pequeños, se beneficiarían con el tratamiento quirúrgico, evitando la exposición a la radiación en el hogar.
• Se debe hacer tiroidectomía a los pacientes que tengan un nódulo sospechoso o un cáncer de tiroides asociado al hipertiroidismo.
