La orbitopatía tiroidea, una de las patologías más comunes en la órbita

summary/abstract:La órbita es una cavidad ósea, comúnmente llamada cuenca, que tienen como finalidad alojar y proteger tanto a los ojos como a las estructuras que le sirven de soporte. Se trata de una zona muy sensible e importante para nuestro cuerpo.
Una de las patologías que afectan frecuentemente a la órbita es la llamada orbitopatía tiroidea, una enfermedad autoinmune relacionada directamente con alteraciones tiroideas y que afecta a los tejidos orbitarios (párpados, músculos oculares y otros tejidos blandos que rodean el globo ocular). En cualquier caso, hay pacientes con enfermedad orbitaria que no desarrollan la enfermedad tiroidea.
A la hora de diagnosticar y tratar la orbitopatía tiroidea y cualquier otra patología que afecta a la órbita se debe acudir a un cirujano oculoplástico.
