Dr. Lal is Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Iowa, where she serves as Co-Leader of the Endocrine Multi-disciplinary Oncology Group and Associate Chief Quality Officer/Director of Inpatient Quality and Safety. She received her medical degree from University of Toronto. She completed her residency in general surgery from University of Toronto and her fellowship in endocrine surgical oncology from Mt. Zion Medical Center, University of California.
Her clinical interest is in endocrine surgery, with a focus in thyroid and parathyroid disease including pediatric thyroid cancer. She is an NIH-funded investigator with an interest in the role of ECM1 in thyroid, breast and other malignancies. She has also authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters. She is a member of the American Association of Endocrine Surgeons, American Thyroid Association, International Association of Endocrine surgeons and Society of University Surgeons.
